Keith Thomas’ Speech – Opening of 3 shelters in memory of Edna Thomas

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, friends everyone. Firstly can I thank you for being here today to assist my family and myself in dedicating these shelters to the memory of my dear Edna. She had a great love of this Bowling Club, having been a foundation member of the Warburton Ladies Bowling Club which was formed in 1960 and which in course amalgamated with the Warburton Bowls Club some 10 years ago. She was elected a Life member of the Club many years ago and as you are probably aware the Green has been named after her. My family and I wished to make some lasting memorial to her memory and we came up with the idea of establishing these three shelters. Really it was a two-pronged thought on our part. The Club needed shelters and was strapped for cash to do the job. From our point of view, we wished to have a lasting memorial in the Bowls Club to Edna and so the seed was sowed to do just this. After 62½ years of married life, I naturally miss my soul mate and I thank each and everyone of you who have supported though a difficult time. I came across a short poem the other day and if you will indulge me for a moment, I would like to read it to you:

Ladies and gentlemen, you will see that we have White & Pink balloons which I

will be asking you to release shortly. These colours have been selected because

they have a very special meaning. White means Purity, Wholeness, Truth and

Innocence and Pink means wellbeing Tolerance and Compassion.

Ladies and Gentleman, with those few words, I would like to declare the shelters open and I have much pleasure in unveiling the plaque.

Would all now please release your balloons.
